Happy National Running Day

To be honest, I didn't even realize that it was today until I started reading blogs. If I had known, maybe I would have spent today's run thinking about something insightful to say. Although it probably wouldn't have been super deep.
Fitting for National Running day.

Is it just me or does anyone else have this problem? Things I think about while running always seem so insightful and deep, but when I put it down on paper, it just seems so . .  . blah.

Unfortunately, in addition to having nothing amazing to say about the day, I also didn't have the most epic of runs. In fact, because I ran with my cousin (he doesn't run much), I moseyed along for 4.6 miles at a 10:14/mile pace.

Now on to more pressing thoughts in my mind. I'm flying down to Louisiana today!

Looks so nice in picture.

I can't believe my days as a student is over. Now, I have to look for a new place and find new friends. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to connect with any runners in Baton Rouge yet. Fingers crossed that I'll meet some soon.

I also want to keep on running down in Baton Rouge, but I keep on reading scary articles about how the city's homicide and crime rate has jumped ever since Katrina dislocated New Orleaners to BR. It apparently has higher homicide rate than NYC or LA. Yikes! At least it's better than Detroit?

Anyways, that poses a challenge to the whole running outside thing. But I plan on running early in the morning and scary people only come out at night, right?

I hope you guys had a wonderful Running Day! Anything I should do to keep safe while on a run?

  1. I always run with my phone and an ID (like GoSport ID)...you could always try to find a running friend :) Then you would have a friend and be safer on runs! Run in populated areas and I know a few girls who have mace on their key chain if they run alone a lot. :)

  2. Have a great time in Louisiana!! You'll meet new friends soon. Just make sure you have a headlamp if you run at night and you might want to stick to running in the daylight for a little while until you figure everything out.

    1. That's my plan. I think I'll try to go running in the morning or on the treadmill at night.

  3. I guess you're going to have to learn to run fast....faster than the murderers. :)

  4. I hope you find some friends to run with there in Louisiana! I like Jamie's advice. Maybe if you check in with a local running store, they might have running groups with scheduled runs. Then you might meet some other runners.

    1. I definitely will try doing that once the weather clears up. It's been raining like there's no tomorrow in Louisiana.
